The Fig Tree was really well written. Vivid imagery
I recently bought another book by Lesley for my 9 year old daughter. It was a good read, my daughter loved it, including the activities that were included.
I’ve known Lesley on a professional level for a few years through networking and other business functions, as well as through social media where it’s a little more personal. She is personable and knowledgeable about current news and events about local wildlife and environmental issues.
If you’re looking for stories or presentations for 7-12 year old kids, I highly recommend Lesley. The kids will enjoy the subjects, images and story-lines as well as the educational content which is portrayed in a way they can relate to.
Lesley brings wisdom, understanding and humour to her wonderful stories for children. Its wonderful we have such a genuine Aussie talent.
For those who have met, know Lesley, or follow this Nana on twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and other social media, you would know I don’t really mean Nana. I really mean Super intelligent, switched on, IT whizz, creative and awesomely influential Nana.
As a CEO/Founder of a business newspaper for small to medium businesses in Perth, I can tell you, Lesley’s writing skills are absolutely brilliant, creative and engaging.
I can’t stop raving about Lesley as a human being. If we all had half her humor, willpower and passion for life, we will all be somewhere else.
Very honoured and grateful to know and work with Lesley.
It has been a delight to know Lesley. Her writing skills are second to none, and as an author, her books captivate, educate, and entertain. Furthermore, as an author, she not only knows how to write, but she also understands the business of media. Lesley is the perfect writer for this multi-platform business era we are in as she understands how each medium works as well as the nuances and economics of monetization of content. I highly recommend her and the content she creates. She is a true creative professional.
I met Lesley a few years ago when this whirlwind former Financial Planner and now Children’s author turned up at one of the breakfasts that I run. To say whirlwind, I subsequently learnt, is an understatement. The energy that Lesley has for life is enviable. If she’s not writing, she’s travelling; if she’s not commenting on Facebook, she’s protesting about wild habitats being destroyed; if she’s not networking, she’s looking after her elderly parents whilst undergoing and recovering from cancer; if she’s not at Kaarakin Black Cockatoo reserve helping them out, she’s promoting fundraising DVDs – the list goes on and on!
I am so pleased that Lesley has recovered from her 2012/13 shock of cancer and is back to writing her books (which she has done so well) and I look forward to learning more of her adventures in the years to come.
I have had the pleasure of interacting with Lesley Dewar on line for many years – and have enjoyed both her writing and her good sense of humor. She is an excellent networker and has written well on that topic, both published and online..
Her children’s stories are well constructed, informative and designed to engage children and parents alike, on a wide range of topics, as well as help to educate. Lesley loves the internet – and Stories My Nana Tells is the ideal way for her to share her love of learning with a new audience of inquiring minds and their wary parents.
She is tough, resilient and offers great content for her readers. It’s a pleasure to recommend her.

With an informative and fluid style of writing, Lesley captures the imagination and provides a few belly laughs in her Stories My Nana Tells series. I particularly like that Lesley doesn’t use prose which talks down to children, as so much literature aimed at kids can, plus her pieces are educational so they’re learning almost without even knowing it; a great trick akin to hiding vegetables in the family dinner! I would recommend Lesley’s works to any school or organisation seeking to engage and teach children and adults alike in an easy to read format with wonderful accompanying photos.
Thank you, Lesley Dewar, for your passionate and generous interview with my son Ben for his school project on Australian Rainforests. You are delightful, informative, and so full of wonderful stories, and Ben is over the moon.
Lesley Dewar is the magical and mesmerising Nana every child deserves.
Lesley’s stories are riveting and conveys wisdom and important life’s message to children. Lesley’s passionate storytelling skills coupled with astute research capabilities has given her the unique ability to transform ordinary everyday events in life into riveting stories of inspiration and wonder. Highly recommend her “Hey Dude – Who Moved My Gumnuts?” Thanks to this story my 8 year old daughter learnt some important lessons about conservation and nature.
Lesley is eloquent and passionate, and I really admire her dedication to using stories to connect people. I’m proud to have worked with her in sculpting stories, and look forward to her future tales!

Lesley is a passionate and entertaining writer. If you are looking for a great gift for 7-12 year olds you can’t go past one of Lesley’s books.
She has a fantastic product and approaches this project with a great business mindset, producing enormous value for the lives she touches along the way. Not only is she a fantastic story-teller and remarkable businesswoman, but she’s a really cool person and easy to get along with. Though watch out when she starts recounting some of her adventures –you might just get so captivated that you forget what you were going to say next.
I’ve known Lesley for a few years now and have found a common bond not only in our business thinking but we both realised a passion for sharing our knowledge with young people. Lesley is a wonderful writer who engages with people of all ages and she takes you along on her journey. Stories My Nana Tells will make a wonderful addition to your family or school and I would encourage everyone to experience at least one of Nana’s stories
Hi Highly recommend Lesley’s Book “Hey Dude – Who Moved My Gumnuts?” the very title itself grabs ones attention. I have a 5 year old granddaughter who showed great interest in the pictures as they varied as the story goes on. The questions at the back are a great idea to include the children in the book and to keep their interest. Job well done Lesley. I look forward to the next exciting episode. Wish I could write like this. Regards Kath Mazzella OAM.
I have known Lesley Dewar as a great story writer for young children, for the past five or six years. Her research is always thorough and she has a great way of engaging her young readers so that they learn while they are being entertained. I would strongly recommend her Stories My Nana Tells for any parent who wants to bring some extra fun into their children’s lives.
Lesley captures a great diversity of information in her stories. There’s a sense of wonder at how the natural works, the interconnectedness and complexity of it. She incorporates scientific information, years of personal observation and learning along with personal anecdotes that bring the characters of the bush to life in vivid ways. The result is educational and entertaining.
