Description
A charming story for children aged 3 to 5, who are learning to read, sound out their letters, and get started with a combination of questions, repetition, and brilliant images.
Where’s the Spiky Echidna?
Follow along with Dawn who is looking for the Spiky Echidna. On this adventure she meets other wonderful animals to ask if they know where he might be!
Echidnas are interesting creatures who live in the Australian bush, and our Spiky Echidna is sometimes also called a spiny anteater. Along with the Platypus, they are the only living mammals that lay eggs. If your child loves finding out new things, they will adore this story. If the interaction of creatures in the bush interests them, they will love to hear you read this story aloud to them, over and over again.
“Where’s the Spiky Echidna?” is a premium story book.
There is adventure galore in this story, as wildlife creatures meet Dawn during her search for the Spiky Echidna. Any one reading it aloud can easily use their own child’s name.
With familiar animals like Kangaroos and Koalas, it also introduces newer ones like an Echidna and the endangered Numbat, from the South West of WA.
From a baby called a Puggle, to a Grumpy Goanna who eats termites, “Where’s the Spiky Echidna?” is a splendid story to start little readers on a voyage of learning for life.
Let your child choose their own critter as a favourite, for repeated readings. They will enjoy doing that. Rather than leave them out, you can read the story aloud with their own name. Make them the Hero of the story.
With bright illustrations and simple text, it draws on a favourite model for young readers: repetition and questions. This encourages excited interaction and learning, while still being fun.
Meet some of the critters.
There are two Numbat pictures, in fact. We took this Mother’s photograph when she was pregnant with four babies. At another time, we saw one of her daughters busily collecting paperbark for her winter nest.
Dawn is excited to learn that Numbats and Echidnas both eat the same thing. WOW!! I didn’t know that!
Meantime, the Grumpy Goanna is not happy. Can you guess why?
Your child will be breathless with anticipation, in meeting these intriguing animals. The Kookaburra is a tease, and the Termite mounds are a surprise. There is another surprise because not everyone is eating termites!
